Discovery Ensemble presents four Discovery Programs per year, each consisting of two in-school workshops, a matinee concert for kids at the schools, and a Saturday evening concert for the public.

The music selected for each Program is designed to be both varied and accessible:

• A short piece with an informal and interactive explanation by members of the orchestra;
• A very unusual piece that is new to all audience members, explained by the conductor;
• A blisteringly intense and passionate performance of a piece familiar to all, even those who think they don’t know classical music!

Discovery Ensemble is unique. By bringing a group of passionate young musicians into the students’ environment we maximize the impact music has on students’ lives. The workshops dispel the myth that classical music is boring and for old people. The kids at the workshops then come to the concert feeling invested in what is happening, which opens the door to a life enriched by music.
